Prosecutors say the younger O'Connor crashed his SUV into a relative's truck in front of a bank on Sunrise Highway, causing his vehicle to roll over.

Three younger siblings, ages 4, 12, and 16, were in the room, but none of them were injured.

Prosecutors said James O'Connor and his unnamed brother also jumped in, and another male relative showed up and they also attacked him. Prosecutors said one of the victims had black eyes and needed to be stapled in the head. The other man had a bloody lip and cuts on his hands.

A group of good Samaritans broke up the scuffle and the O'Connors fled the scene, but were arrested later that day by Suffolk County police.

Mr. O'Connor and his two sons were each ordered held on $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.

Patrick O'Connor is charged with second-degree assault, attempted assault and two counts of menacing. His minor son is charged with two counts of assault.

“As alleged, these defendants brazenly initiated an assault in the middle of Sunrise Highway, putting their families and the public at risk of serious harm,” District Attorney Ray Tierney said in a statement. “Fortunately, there were no further serious injuries or casualties as a result of this violent confrontation.”
