Police said the man met the girl in person around 9 p.m. on January 6 near Third Avenue and East 122nd Street in East Harlem.
He allegedly raped the girl and then fled on foot.
Paramedics took the girl to the hospital where she was examined and treated. Her condition is said to be stable.
The photo showed a man wearing a Nautica hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the NYPD, which says the investigation is ongoing but no arrests have been made.
Police have not said which online apps the child used, but experts have warned parents to monitor their children's online activities.
In one heinous case, Matthew Christian Locher admitted to seeking out victims online who were suffering from mental health issues, including suicidal thoughts, depression and anorexia.
“Locher encouraged the victim to self-harm, instructing the victim who suffered from an eating disorder to fast, and when she did not comply, ordered him to film himself cutting himself,” the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement. said.
Prosecutors say the child predator ordered one of his underage victims to burn down her Ohio home so she could kill her parents and flee to California to become a sex slave.
Locher is declared Sentenced to 27 years in federal prison.
