The Georgia judge presiding over former President Trump's criminal case will hold a hearing to consider accusations that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) hired her boyfriend to serve as senior prosecutor in the case. It is scheduled for May.
Judge Scott McAfee scheduled a hearing for February 15th and directed Willis to respond in writing to the motion by February 2nd.
The accusations first surfaced last week in court papers filed by lawyers for Mike Roman, one of the former president's co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case and a 2020 campaign worker for President Trump. The filing contained no hard evidence of the alleged relationship.
Roman called Willis' alleged relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade a “fatal flaw” in the indictment and asked the judge to dismiss the charges. He also asked the judge to block the Fulton County District Attorney's Office from further involvement in the case.
During a church service earlier this week, Willis appeared to defend Wade's employment without mentioning him by name, suggesting race was a factor in the criticism.
The Feb. 15 hearing is scheduled for the same day Trump and his defense team are scheduled to appear for a hearing in the hush money criminal case.
