This week, an Arkansas cowboy was tasked with rescuing a stranded calf from a nearby frozen pond.
“We drove the truck to the pond, ran up there, [the calf] I put a rope on it and took it off,” Max Bishop of Paragould; told KAIT At that moment, Caleb Albritton announced that the calf was stuck in the pond.
Bishop used a large lasso to reach the cold animal and pull it to safety, according to the video.
Having recently undergone surgery, Bishop struggled at first. He lost the rope on his first attempt, but managed to reel in his calf on his second attempt, KAIT explained.
“We were really lucky because where the calf was lying, the ice was already cracking and starting to melt,” he said of the last-minute rescue.
The calf's owner, John Lane, said winter was the worst time of year for the herd.
“Even if the pond melts, the calves will jump out onto the pond, and before you know it. We have already lost five calves,” he lamented.
