Sen. John Kennedy (R-Louisiana) has endorsed former President Donald Trump following his primary wins in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Kennedy said he waited until he saw the former president win the New Hampshire primary to announce his support in the spirit of competition.
“We left the primaries alone because competition makes us all better, but this is over,” he posted on X. “It's going to be President Trump versus President Biden. It's either hope or more hurt.” It's not even close. I choose hope. I support the press. I look forward to working with Mr. Trump. ”

John Kennedy's endorsement follows that of House Minority Leader Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana).
“American families and workers deserve a president who will stand up for them and their safety, rescue us from failed Bidenomics, and restore our country to greatness,” Scalise said earlier this month. ” he said. “There's one man in this campaign with a proven track record of being able to save our country and get us back on track, and that's Donald Trump. He's done it once before. And I know I will do it again.”
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-Louisiana), who voted to certify Biden's election and impeach Trump, has not commented on the matter.
President Trump's main opponent, Nikki Haley, has not indicated any intention to withdraw from the race, although Republican Party Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has said she should withdraw immediately.
“When you look at the math and the path forward, I don't think that's the case for Nikki Haley. I think she ran a great campaign. The message from voters is clear,” McDaniel said. “We need to unite around our eventual nominee, Donald Trump. We need to make sure we defeat Joe Biden. 10 months left until the November election. I can't wait to step on the gas and take down the worst president who's kept us open, allowed fentanyl to flow in, and allowed inflation to run rampant.”
