Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said Thursday on CBS News that former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) is resigning and replacing Donald Trump as the Republican presidential nominee. He said they should support the president.
Major Garrett, chief correspondent in Washington, said, “Is the Republican nomination race over?''
Mr. Daines replied, “Yes.”
Garrett said, “Should Nikki Haley drop out?”
Mr. Daines replied, “Yes.”
Garrett said, “Why?”
“Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee. Donald Trump was elected president-elect in November 2024 and is scheduled to take office in January 2025,” Daines said.
He added, “There is absolutely no path for Nikki Haley to win the nomination. It's time to come around President Trump, line up behind him, and focus on the general election. It's going to be a close race in the November 2024 general election. It will be a close race for president. We expect a close race for the U.S. House of Representatives. We expect a close race for the U.S. House of Representatives. The stakes could not be higher. The contrast between what Joe Biden has done for this country and what he has done for this country could not be starker.”
“I think it's time for all Republicans to support resident Trump,” Daines concluded.
