Fed up California man bashes in window of getaway car after thieves rob work van; other resident uses gun to thwart robbery

Surveillance video shows a furious California man slamming the windows of his getaway car after robbers broke into his work van.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Monday in front of the man’s home at Beck Avenue and Saticoy Street in Sun Valley.

Police say they fled with about $5,000 worth of power tools and a ladder.

In a second incident on the same night, about 10 minutes before the first incident, another man successfully chased off a would-be robber at gunpoint.

Raymond Rice described what happened outside his home near Benn Avenue and Elkwood Street.

“When I heard the alarm go off, I grabbed my gun and ran outside,” Rice said. “Here came out, there were two guys, one was driving, and he came around the corner and backed up and smashed the side of the window and then the side of the car.”

He said they were about to get into his car when he jumped out with a gun and fled. They were unable to steal anything in that incident.

“We couldn’t even get out of here as fast as they did,” he added.

Rice went on to say there have been other robberies in the area.

“This has already happened three times on this block,” he added. “People have to start arming themselves. We have to take care of ourselves.”

No injuries were reported.
