A homeless Nevada man was released on parole Monday after admitting to intentionally plowing his Jeep into a crowd serving food outside a Reno homeless center last year, killing one person and seriously injuring two others. He was sentenced to life in prison.
David Turner, 58, was arrested shortly after the April 3 attack last year while sitting in a car at a nearby motel, authorities said.

Turner told police he hit people with his car because he was homeless and had nowhere to go. Prosecutors said he had been in prison before and that he wanted to return there.
Michelle Jardine, 55, died. Christina Roman, 47, and her daughter Clarissa Roman, 22, were seriously injured.
Clarissa Roman and Jardine’s daughter, Angelina, testified before Washoe District Judge Scott Freeman at Monday’s sentencing hearing.

“I want you to know what I look like. I’m here for Michelle Jardine,” Clarissa Roman told Turner.
Turner pleaded guilty in September to one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

“The defendant’s selfish actions have resulted in him spending the rest of his life behind bars, and he deserves every moment of that sentence,” Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks said in a statement. ” he said.
“The physical, mental and emotional effects of Mr. Turner’s actions will be felt by Clarissa, Christina and Michelle’s loved ones for the rest of their lives,” he said.
