Small plane crashes into Florida mobile home park

A small plane crashed into a Florida trailer park Thursday night, setting several homes on fire and killing several people, local fire officials said.

The single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35 crashed at Bayside Waters Trailer Home Park in Clearwater, just south of Clearwater Mall, at about 7:08 p.m., according to the Clearwater Fire and Rescue Department.

The FAA said in a statement that the plane’s pilot reported engine failure before the crash. The agency said it was unclear how many people were on board.

Clearwater Fire Rescue Chief Scott Ehlers said the wreck “resulted in several fatalities on board the aircraft and in the mobile home.”

Video released by the fire and rescue team showed an apocalyptic scene, with plane wreckage still smoldering next to charred buildings and trees.
