Ex-White House lawyer Ty Cobb warns Biden could be ‘in danger of retribution’ if Trump wins election

Former White House Counsel Ty Cobb responded to President Trump’s comments in the ruling rejecting Trump’s claim for presidential immunity, saying that if former President Trump wins the next election, President Biden will “retaliate.” It warned that it could put people at risk.

“I believe that President Biden could be at risk of retaliation if Trump is elected,” Cobb told CNN’s Erin Burnett on Tuesday. “But I don’t think there’s any legal basis for that, and I don’t think it’s going to go very far.”

Cobb was referring to a post on Tuesday in which Trump asked for “full immunity” to be granted to do “what needs to be done for the country.”

A three-judge panel on Tuesday upheld a lower court’s ruling that Trump is not immune from criminal prosecution, blocking his efforts to file a federal lawsuit for election interference.

President Trump said in a post that the ruling “destroys our nation” and that he cannot let it go.

“If not overturned, this decision will seriously harm not only the presidency, but the lives, breaths, and successes of our country,” Trump said.

“The president will be afraid to act after leaving office for fear of vicious retaliation from the opposing party,” his post continued, adding that he knows this from personal experience.

Cobb, who served in the Trump administration, said the 44 presidents before him “didn’t waste a second wondering whether or not they should commit intentional criminal acts.” He added that he did not “endorse” Trump’s claims.

The lawyer rejected President Trump’s claim that the Supreme Court had stripped him of his immunity, saying, “Not since Nixon has anyone believed that a president is above criminal procedure.” Ta.

“So I don’t think any of what he said today, his underlying rhetoric about red meat, is true,” he said.

President Trump is currently defending himself against 91 criminal charges, including four state and federal criminal indictments. He is the front-runner for the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election.
