Rep. Mike Lawler (RN.Y.) delivered a history lesson on Democrats and the border crisis Wednesday, and CNN anchor Caitlan Collins clearly didn’t like it.
At the beginning of the interview, Collins tried to make a mountain out of a molehill, hinting at the ideas of Democrat Tom Suozzi. Victory over Republican Maji Pilip The New York special election will feature an indictment of Republican issues, particularly immigration and the border crisis.
“Please stop gaslighting,” Lawlor told Collins. “The reality is that [the border crisis] This is a crisis of the Democratic Party’s own making. ”
Lawler, a House Republican, reminded Collins. passed a bill addressing border crisis, bill All House Democrats voted against it.. But Collins defended opponents, saying the bill “contains a lot of Trump-era immigration policy.”
“These policies actually caused border crossings to close,” Lawlor confirmed. “Joe Biden reversed those policies and border crossings have exploded. That’s why we’re dealing with this disaster.”
Despite his initial insistence on the importance of immigration policy and the New York special election, Collins tried to change the subject by asking Lawler: About the gossip about George Santos.
However, Lawler quickly turned the tables against Collins.
“Unlike George Santos, I want to go back to the border because it’s something that actually matters,” he said. “The fact is that Democrats in the U.S. Senate…couldn’t say or do anything about the border until late last year….It’s unreasonable.”
In response, Collins again criticized House Republicans for refusing to pass a bipartisan Senate bill to help Donald Trump.
“Well, again, Democrats had three years under President Joe Biden to actually do something about the border. They chose not to.” Lawler pointed out. “Senate Democrats chose not to take action until December of last year to actually start negotiating a bill.
“That’s the bottom line, and that’s how Congress works, because the media seems to be taking the position that whatever the Senate passes, everyone has to accept. There are two chambers of Congress. must be negotiated,” Collins continued. interrupted him.
“Mr. Congressman, I’m afraid I have to stop you there,” she said to Lawlor, cutting him off.
Collins said she needed to end this segment because she had an interview coming up on her next CNN show. But with four minutes left before the start of the hour, a check of CNN’s transcript shows Collins typically ends his show at 10 p.m., instead of 9:56 p.m.
