Police in California have released a photo of an 18-year-old student who allegedly planned a mass shooting at a Christian high school but was thwarted by another student’s tip.
of Photo shown Sebastian Bailey Villase, or posing with some weapons in the bathroom.
Police said they received a tip Thursday about his possible plans to attack other students at Ontario Christian High School. By Saturday, police had arrested him and found seven rifles, two revolvers, a handgun, a shotgun and 1,000 rounds of ammunition in his home.
Villaseor was charged with five counts of attempted murder and one count of attempted criminal intimidation.
Prosecutors said they believed the suspect had planned to kill specific students at the school, four girls and one boy.
They said they have evidence that Villaseor planned the distance from police to the school to estimate police response time.
Police said in a media briefing that Villaseor was attached to other school shooters.
On Thursday, a judge ruled against the student’s bail.
“The defendant in this case poses a great danger to the community,” Chief District Attorney Joe Gaetano told the judge. “The victims are all minors. They will be at great risk. The risk will exist in some groups outside of school as well.”
Chief of Police Michael Lorenz told reporters The weapons and ammunition found in the boy’s home legally belonged to his father. A district attorney’s spokeswoman said his father is not being investigated for committing a crime.
“He was reviewing tactical supplies and selecting a specific date to carry out the school shooting,” Lorenz claimed.
Police hailed the student tipster as a hero.
“The student saved a life, saved a family from losing a child, and saved a community from being destroyed by a senseless act of violence,” they said in a statement.
