During his State of the Union address Thursday night, President Biden was urged to “say the name” of Laken Riley, a Georgia college student who was allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant last month.
When Biden mentioned Riley, it sounded as if he had gotten Riley’s first name wrong and said “Lincoln” instead.
Unsurprisingly, “Lincoln Riley” trended on X (formerly Twitter), but social media platforms aren’t always perfect.

X described this trend as a “sports” topic. Of course, that wasn’t right, but it makes sense.
Lincoln Riley is a real person and the head football coach at USC.
For those who didn’t watch the speech, it may have been surprising to see the coach’s name rise to the top of social media trending lists out of nowhere. And, unfortunately, sometimes the news isn’t good.
Pat McAfee, host of “The Pat McAfee Show,” noticed this trend and thought the worst had happened to the coach.
“Last night, I saw someone take a microphone and address the entire nation. He announced that Lincoln Riley had passed away,” McAfee said. he said on his show on Friday.. “After this event, I went on my phone and it was Lincoln Riley and he was trending. I clicked – ‘He’s dead.’ Is Lincoln Riley dead? Wait a minute. Who said that? The President? Is Lincoln Riley dead? How did this happen?

“I saw his name trending, [so] It’s like, “Wait, he was just on the show.” I thought, “What did Lincoln Riley do?”
Biden was shredded by an apparent accident, specifically Laken’s mother Allison Phillips.
“Biden doesn’t even know my child’s name. Pathetic! If you’re going to say her name (even if you’re forced to) at least say the correct name!” she wrote on Facebook.
“Joe Biden just confused University of Southern California football coach Lincoln Riley with Laken Riley, a college student who was murdered by an illegal immigrant. This just happened,” said Clay Travis, founder of Outkick. .The man’s brain is turned to mush. It’s incredibly rude.”
James Woods, a prominent conservative actor in Hollywood, posted: “‘Lincoln’ Riley? Absolutely appalling.”

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) also commented on Hannity.
“It’s Laken Riley, not Lincoln,” Jordan said. “And we should remember that. [Biden’s] About the policies that led to this tragedy for this young woman in Georgia and what her family is now having to deal with. ”
