A Philadelphia duo has been arrested in connection with the “execution-style” murders of a man and a woman in Fairmount Park late last month.

Philadelphia Police announced that 52-year-old Lamar Young and 56-year-old Dale Johnson have been arrested and are now charged with murder and conspiracy.

Police said in a news conference Thursday that officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of Mount Pleasant Drive in Fairmount Park on Feb. 29 for a report of a “hospital incident.” FOX 29 in Philadelphia report.

When officers arrived, they found the bodies of Thurston Cooper, 49, and Christina Chambers, 38, and three shell casings on the side of the road.

Police said at a news conference that Johnson, Young, Cooper and Chambers had been talking earlier that night at Terraps Tavern on West Olney Avenue.

After the suspect and victim left the restaurant around 9:40 p.m., Chambers and Coopers were looking for a ride when Johnson and Young offered to give them a ride. It appeared to be, police said.

About 20 minutes later, the vehicle with all four people inside was seen at Fairmount Park, police added.

Less than an hour later, police responded to a 911 call after someone found the victim’s body in the park.

Police said there was no “concrete” evidence about what led up to the shooting or what the four men said at the bar. Still, police said they believe there was some type of confrontation at the bar that was resolved before the suspect and victim left.

Surveillance video of the shooting was not available, but police have nearly 10 minutes of video of cars parked in the park that night.

Chief Inspector Christopher Werner said: “Frankly, this was a truly senseless crime.” “And if it’s more than an altercation, you’re looking at double murder.”

The Chief Inspector also said the four men frequented the bar and were likely to have known each other before the murder.
