LSU Tigers women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey didn’t just throw out the first pitch at the Savannah Bananas game in Baton Rouge over the weekend.

she was kicked out. At least not the banana way.

Mulkey, who is looking forward to another national title shot with the Tigers as the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, threw a great first pitch. However, the referee ruled it a ball, not a strike.

While the Bananas’ catcher congratulated Mulkey on his good pitch, she was focused on yelling at the umpire. Things heated up even more when she started kicking in the dirt and pointing to home plate to show where her first pitch had crossed.

The referee had had enough and removed her from the match. The audience cheered for Mulkey, who continued to give the referee a piece of his mind.

But everything changed when Mulkey and the referee came face to face. The referee grabbed Mulkey’s arm and raised it like a wrestler who had just won a match, showing the crowd that this was all a skit. That is Bananas baseball itself.

For Mulkey, it’s good to let off steam before getting down to business in the NCAA Tournament.

Things didn’t go LSU’s way in the SEC Tournament, losing to the undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks in the finals. Also, toward the end of the game, South Carolina’s Camila Cardoso shoved LSU’s Fraujai Johnson, sparking a scuffle that ended with Johnson’s younger brother being arrested for entering the courtroom. The match got really heated.

The Tigers will face No. 14 Rice in the first round of the tournament on Friday in Albany, New York.

LSU is in the same spot as No. 1 Iowa State, which they faced in last year’s finals. If they win their first three games of the tournament, they will have a chance to compete in the Elite 8.
