DC attorney general finally does the right thing, drops criminal charges against Gold Star father who interrupted Biden

Gold Star’s father, Steve Nikoy, will no longer face criminal charges for disrupting President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address earlier this month.

Washington, D.C., Attorney General Brian Schwalb (D) dropped all charges against Nikoui on Tuesday, FOX News report. Mr. Schwalb’s office told the outlet that Mr. Schwalb decided not to indict Mr. Nikoui because his office routinely drops minor cases against protesters.

According to Fox News, Nikoy was “touched and humbled” to hear the news from Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.).

Nikowi — whose son is a lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Kareem Nikoi was one of 13 American soldiers killed during Biden’s disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal and attended SOTU as a guest of Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.).

But he was removed from the House gallery after he yelled at Biden and disrupted his speech.

“Remember Abbeygate?!” Nicoi roared. “U.S. Marines! Kareem Nikoi!”

Capitol Police officers quickly escorted Mr. Nikoui outside the Capitol and briefly arrested him. Officers justified their arrest by claiming that Nikoi had been warned in advance to stop, but he did not comply.

Tonight around 10:15 p.m., a man yelled and disrupted the State of the Union address. Our police officer warned him to stop, and if he did not comply, the man would be removed from the House Gallery and charged with Washington DC Code § 22-1307 – Crowding, Obstruction, or Failure to Accommodate. I was arrested. It is illegal to obstruct Congress or demonstrate at the Capitol.

Several House Republicans, including Issa and Rep. Mike McCaul (R-Texas), attempted to intervene in the days following Nikoi’s arrest.

But that wasn’t until House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) intervened. According to Congressman Mastsaid Schwalb ultimately did the right thing and agreed to drop the charges.
