Gavin Newsom Shifts on Israel, Calls for ‘Ceasefire’ in Gaza

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) took a step back from his pro-Israel stance early in the war in a letter to California’s “Muslim, Palestinian American, and Arab American” communities on Thursday, taking a step back from his pro-Israel stance early in the war and called for a “ceasefire”.

As Breitbart News reported in October, Newsom made a surprise visit to Israel on his way to China and met with Israeli victims of the Oct. 7 Hamast terrorist attack. As Mr. Newsom recalled, he did not explicitly support Israel’s right to self-defense. In Issarel he met “young soldiers who had just come from the air raid shelters and the battlefield.”

Now, Mr. Newsom has followed his party’s lead and pivoted to a more opaque centrist wing, calling for an “immediate ceasefire as part of an agreement to secure desperately needed Gaza civilian relief and the release of hostages.” ” is requested.

Newsom’s language echoes that of fellow Californian Vice President Kamala Harris, who made headlines in early March when Hamas called for a temporary “ceasefire” in the wake of an agreement to release some Israeli hostages. It reflects the words. Although it was not a substantive policy change, it marked a lasting change in rhetoric.

“We also unequivocally condemn Hamas’s terrorist attacks against Israel,” he said, but did not mention that Hamas continues to fire rockets at Israeli civilians whenever possible, calling on Hamas to surrender. There was no such thing.

Newsom and the Democratic Party are responding to anti-Israel voter sentiment within the party, especially in key battleground states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania, who are threatening to abandon President Joe Biden in the 2024 election.
