Texas National Guard soldier accused of attempting to smuggle illegal alien across border: ‘I am so stupid’

Texas National Guard admits it showed serious error in judgment after officials say reportedly A man was arrested after attempting to smuggle illegal immigrants across the southern border in a government-issued SUV that also contained weapons.

According to a report from Ali, just before 4 p.m. last Sunday, an unidentified Texas National Guardsman was arrested in or near Kinney County, Texas. At one point, the official vehicle he was driving was also carrying a passenger who was suspected of being an illegal immigrant. Bradley is a NewsNation journalist covering the southern border.

Bradley quoted Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe as saying the soldiers “approached a temporary tactical Border Patrol checkpoint off 674 in Kinney County that had only been in operation for a few days. , immediately turned back,” which made law enforcement suspicious, they wrote. Texas Department of Public Safety investigators then began pursuing the vehicle and eventually used spike strips to stop it.

After the driver, who was wearing civilian clothes, was rescued from the car, police officers at the scene appeared to quickly realize that they were facing a sensitive incident. Several officials are ostensibly trying to determine the driver’s military affiliation by examining various cards taken from his wallet.

“National Guard? National Guard?” one officer asks.

“He said he was in the military,” another replies.

The officer with whom Bradley shared body camera footage was seen sighing heavily throughout the video. When the driver warned him that there was a weapon in the car, the officer yelled, “Oh, you had a weapon in the car too? Oh my god!” Bradley reported that the presence of the weapon “escalated the smuggling charges,” but the exact charges against the driver remain unclear.

When asked why he tried to run away from the police, the driver said he was “very scared.” As he was handcuffed, he added: “Oh, I’m really stupid.”

“Yeah, you’re really stupid,” another officer quickly retorted.

No other people appeared to be in the vehicle when the driver was arrested. However, multiple officers reported seeing at least one person being released on bail.[] It probably came from the vehicle in question. “I saw a vehicle on the fence,” one of the officers said.

Another brief exchange caught on video indicated that a “Hispanic male” was seen involved in the vehicle, but few details of that conversation could be heard.

Bradley said the driver was “promised” between $5,000 and $6,000 to smuggle the alleged illegal alien. The driver was reportedly dispatched from McAllen to Eagle Pass, Texas, as part of Operation Lone Star, Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s (R) effort to stop illegal border crossings. . This incident remains under investigation by Texas State Police.

Both Bradley and Newsweek reached out to Abbott’s office and Texas DPS for comment, and Newsweek also contacted the Kinney County Sheriff’s Office for additional comment. There appears to be no response from these offices or institutions yet.
