Texas man convicted of sexual assault fails to show up to court

A Texas man convicted of sexual assault is on the run after failing to appear in court for sentencing.

The Travis County District Attorney’s Office announced on March 28 that a Travis County jury found Hai Vo guilty of aggravated sexual assault after a three-day trial and three hours of deliberation. The next day, he disappeared during the trial.

Prosecutors had requested that Mr. Vo be detained after his conviction, but the request was denied.

“When we know that a defendant is likely to receive a significant prison sentence, our concern is that there is an increased risk, a flight risk. “We requested that the defendant be remanded to custody,” Travis County said. District Attorney Jose Garza said.

Mr Vaux’s sentence was assessed by the jury as 10 years in prison.

Judge Bob Perkins presided over the case and said: fox austin Vaux has appeared in all previous court appearances and there was no indication that he would not be present at sentencing.

Vaux was convicted of sexually assaulting a 24-year-old disabled woman. Authorities intervened after the victim told her mother that she had been sexually assaulted by an acquaintance from her church after a Lunar New Year event.

Her family attended a church event in January 2020, and she stayed behind to witness the end of the festivities.

Vaux offered to take her home and took her to his home, where he took photos of her, according to the affidavit. He then inappropriately touched her and sexually assaulted her while she was changing, authorities said. Vo advised her investigators to change her attire, but she denied assault, she said.
