Abducted 10-month-old New Mexico girl found alive after mother fatally shot, suspect in custody

A 10-month-old baby girl who was reported missing and abducted after her mother and another woman were found shot to death in a park in New Mexico last week has been found alive and a suspect is in custody. authorities announced Monday morning.

The Clovis Police Department said in a statement that Eleia Maria Torres was found unharmed and taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

Police said a suspect was also taken into custody, but did not provide further details.

“With the help of law enforcement, 10-month-old Ileia Maria Torres was located and the suspect was taken into custody,” the department said in a statement. “Little Elaia was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. The Clovis Police Department would like to thank all agencies involved in this investigation for working tirelessly to reach this conclusion.”

Police say more information will be released in the future.

The Clovis Police Department responded to Ned Hawk Park in the 700 block of County Road 17 near Clovis on Friday around 4:30 p.m. Responding officers found two women, identified as 23-year-old Samantha Cisneros and 23-year-old Taryn Allen, dead. KRQE-TV reported.

A 5-year-old girl was also found nearby with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. An update on her condition was not immediately available.

Officers became concerned that another child may have been at the scene of the alleged crime after finding an infant car seat, stroller and baby bottle at the scene.

As officers searched for the second child, family members told them Cisneros was the mother of the injured 5-year-old girl and 10-month-old Eleia. An Amber Alert was then issued for the missing child.

Police believed at the time that Eleia had been abducted by the person who shot and killed her mother and Allen.
