CNN host Fareed Zakaria said on “GPS Sunday” this week that the criminal charges filed against former President Donald Trump in New York City were politically motivated.
“Trump is currently leading in nearly every battleground state, but behind those numbers lies an even more worrying detail,” Zakaria said. I think it’s best to be honest about the reality. I understand that polls aren’t always accurate, but they generally overestimate support for Donald Trump. “I don’t think there are many shy Biden supporters in this country.”
He added, “The Republican Party appears to be united behind Trump. The opposition he faced in the primaries has largely disappeared. And the trial against him continues to put him in the spotlight, and he It has infuriated a base that sees him as a martyr, and may even help earn him some sympathy among ordinary people who believe his prosecutors are politically motivated. This happens to be true. In my opinion, a majority of Americans do not believe that an indictment in New York was brought against a defendant whose name is not Donald Trump. I am skeptical that he will receive a fair trial.”
