Florida congressmen announced Monday that they have formally introduced articles of impeachment against President Biden over his threat to cut off some military aid to Israel.
Congressman Cory Mills, citing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to shelve plans to invade Rafah, said it would be an illegal “abuse of power” for Biden to condition the delivery of certain military weapons to the Jewish state. ” and criticized it as a “quid pro quo.”
“As a member of the House of Representatives, it is my constitutional duty to introduce articles of impeachment against Joe Biden for his recent abuses of power,” Mills said. stated in a statement.
“President Biden violated his oath to faithfully carry out the duties of the Presidency and uphold the Constitution, and abused his power by demanding ‘quid pro quo’ with Israel while leveraging critical military aid for policy change. did.
“This egregious action not only undermined the credibility of the United States, but also the interests of our long-time ally Israel,” the 43-year-old congressman said. “Therefore, President Biden’s actions merit impeachment, trial, removal from office, and disqualification from holding future public office under the United States.”
Mills’ resolution has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee and has one Republican co-sponsor, Rep. Elijah Crane (R-Ariz.).
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin reported to Congress last week that the Biden administration had “paused” shipments of precision munitions destined for Israel.
Hours later, the 81-year-old Biden announced in an interview with CNN that the US would stop selling 2,000-pound bombs if Israel invaded Rafah, considered Hamas’ last major terror stronghold. did. More than 1 million civilians seeking refuge from war.
“If they go into Rafah, they haven’t gone into Rafah yet, but even if they go into Rafah, they have historically used to deal with Rafah, to deal with cities. I’ve made it clear that I’m not going to supply the weapons that have been used. I’m going to address that issue,” Biden said.
Mills, a member of the House Foreign Affairs and Armed Services Committee, said Biden’s red line was calculated ahead of the 2024 general election to garner support from voters in battleground states opposed to Israel’s war against Hamas. He argued that it was a political act.
“He knew what would be included in the additional aid package for Israel. He knew that once we appropriated aid funds from Congress, it should move forward,” Mills said. said. He told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo. on monday.
“Instead, he stole the show from the American public by sending the first shipment, which was then taken by Hamas, used by militants, and sold to aid in the counterattack. Meanwhile, shipments of weapons to Iraq were put on hold. [Israel Defense Forces] and to Israel in exchange for political benefits in elections. ” Mills said.
Mr. Biden is already the subject of an ongoing impeachment inquiry in the House of Representatives over his family’s overseas business dealings, and Mr. Mills’ resolution is unlikely to reach the investigation stage any time soon.
