President Biden told an audience at the NAACP Detroit Chapter dinner that if former President Trump were elected to the White House for a second term, he would fill the hypothetical vacancy on the Supreme Court with “someone with a brain.” I asked them to think about whether or not they thought so.
In a political speech at the NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner on Sunday, Biden attacked his political opponents for appointing high court judges who ultimately helped rule against him.
“He brags about overturning Roe v. Wade,” Biden said of Trump. “Not only does he deny reproductive freedom, he worsens mortality rates for black mothers, who are nearly three times more likely to die from pregnancy complications than white women.”
“Trump openly encourages voter suppression and election destruction. He and his MAGA extremists have gutted affirmative action,” Biden added.
Mr. Biden asked the audience to consider who else Mr. Trump would nominate to serve on the jury for life, and asked them to elect him and Vice President Kamala Harris for another term, saying, “I will judge fairly.” ” promised to appoint a judge.
“Let me ask you, if he’s re-elected, who do you think he’ll put on the Supreme Court?” Do you think he’ll hire someone with brains? ” Biden said. “Look, everyone. Like Dr. King said, give us your ballot. We’re going to have judges in our courts who will judge justly and give mercy.”
“If you re-elect Kamala and I and the Democratic Congress, we will support the NAACP. We will sign the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, the Voting Freedom Act, and make Roe v. Wade the law of the land again. “I intend to do so,” he said, referring to several bills that form the core of the Democratic Party’s platform. In a divided Congress, legislation securing voting and reproductive rights would need to reach high approval ratings to pass.
During his term in office, President Trump appointed three conservative justices to the Supreme Court’s nine justices. President Trump and political observers on both sides of the aisle say some of the most high-profile legal rulings of the past few years, including the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed a federal right to abortion, have resulted in Trump’s nominations. is often considered to have been successful.
