CNN political commentator Ana Navarro said on CNN’s “Newsroom” on Friday that anti-immigrant Latinos who support former President Donald Trump are behaving in a “very stupid manner.”
“You and I have had many conversations about the rhetoric he uses when he talks about immigration and things like that. When you look at the polling numbers, when you dig into the demographics, Trump is doing well among Latinos. He’s doing well among African-American voters. This is certainly a threat to the president’s reelection campaign. What do you make of this disconnect?”
“This is true, and you and I know this as Latinos, but there are some Latinos who forget that they came here as immigrants and they want to close the door behind them, and they think that by being anti-immigrant, they’re going to pass as American or whatever. This is a very foolish attitude,” Navarro said.
She added, “What people don’t realize is that when a guide drives thousands of miles to find Latinos in a Walmart in Texas, he doesn’t care when you got here or what your accent is. What he’s looking for is, do you look like me, do you sound like me? That’s what he’s looking for. So when people are protesting something, they’re not asking for your ID. They’re just protesting the group.”
