Elon Musk Slams Trump Verdict: ‘Anyone Is at Risk’

Tesla CEO and X/Twitter owner Elon Musk slammed former President Donald Trump’s guilty verdict on Thursday, calling it a “deep blow to the public’s faith in the American justice system,” adding that “everyone is at risk” now that “a former president can be convicted for such a trivial matter.”

“Today certainly did great damage to the public’s faith in the American justice system,” Musk said in a Twitter post on Thursday.

“If a former president can be convicted on such a trivial matter, motivated not by justice but by politics, then anyone can risk a similar fate,” the Tesla CEO added.

Musk’s comments were in response to an X-account under the name Geiger Capital pointing out that “the reason a former US president was convicted in the first place wasn’t for the Iraq or Afghanistan wars, the illegal CIA coup, drone attacks on weddings, or spying on Americans… it was because Trump misclassified a $130,000 payment to a porn actress for a non-disclosure agreement.”

“It tells you everything you need to know,” Geiger Capital added.

In another post, Musk wrote “well said” in response to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) writing that “today’s verdict is the culmination of a legal process bent to the political will of those involved, including left-wing prosecutors, a partisan judge, and a jury that reflects one of the most liberal places in America — all in an effort to ‘get’ Donald Trump.”

“The very fact that this case was filed, involving alleged misdemeanor business records violations from nearly a decade ago, is evidence of the political corruption of the justice system in a place like New York City,” DeSantis continued. “This is especially true given that this same district attorney routinely condones criminal activity that endangers law-abiding citizens in his jurisdiction.”

“They say no one is above the law, but it’s also true that no one is above the law. This lawsuit would not have been filed, the judge would not have ruled in the same way, and the jury would not have convicted him if the defendant had not been Donald Trump,” DeSantis added.

“In America, the rule of law should be applied calmly and fairly, not subject to the political agendas of rigged courts,” the governor concluded in his post.

Musk also responded to billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, who responded to DeSantis’ post, writing, “Any objective person would agree with @GovRonDeSantis.”

“This is certainly troubling,” Musk said. “The American people as a whole should decide who becomes president.”

The SpaceX CEO’s comments came after a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in a hush money trial on Thursday.

That would normally be a misdemeanor and the statute of limitations has expired, but District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged the case as a felony, arguing that the alleged falsification of business records was done to cover up a federal crime. Trump has never been convicted of such a crime, and prosecutors did not specify what crimes were committed or have to prove any of those elements.

Trump is currently scheduled to be sentenced in New York on July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention begins on July 15 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where delegates will vote for Trump as their presidential candidate.
