Starbucks and Grubhub are partnering on a coffee delivery service in an effort to expand the coffee company’s business.
Starbucks is launching a delivery service with Grubhub in Pennsylvania, Colorado and Illinois this month, with plans to expand to all 50 states by August. The company announced Thursday.
Customers will be able to order and customize most Starbucks food and beverage items through Grubhub’s mobile app and website, as well as track the status of their orders, the Seattle-based coffee company said.
Customers can already order Starbucks food and drinks through delivery services DoorDash, Uber Eats and Postmates, and the coffee company has seen an increase in demand for its delivery services.
“Customer demand for Starbucks delivery continues to increase, as evidenced by double-digit growth in our U.S. delivery business this quarter, demonstrating that customers continue to seek convenience in their daily lives,” Meg Mathes, Starbucks’ vice president of digital experience, said in a press release Thursday.
Starbucks has developed new packaging products, including two-cup to-go trays and new shopping bags, to make it easier for delivery drivers to carry multiple items at once, the company said.
The announcement follows a disappointing last quarter for Starbucks, where first-quarter revenue fell 2 percent below market expectations.
The company added that Grubhub customers who sign up for its $9.99-per-month membership program will enjoy access to free shipping, reduced service fees and special promotions on Starbucks products.
“Joining forces with a beloved national brand like Starbucks allows us to give our customers even more of what they want on Grubhub, while strengthening our business offerings and expanding our merchant supply in markets across the country,” said Liz Bosson, Grubhub’s vice president of business partnerships.
