A transgender teen has described the terrifying moment her “teeth exploded” after she was ambushed by a male student at her Minnesota high school and called a “bitch” while trying to use the boys’ bathroom.
Kobalt Sovereign, 17, said the assault began immediately after the boy peered over where she was sitting at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka and began yelling abuse at her. Curry report.
“I was shot in the jaw, one of my teeth was knocked out and there were pieces of it in my mouth,” the teenager said of the May 30 attack.
“My jaw was broken in two places… my back teeth were shattered.”
The girl was rushed to hospital immediately after the incident and underwent hours of surgery to have three titanium plates fitted in her jaw.
“He had no reason to hate me. I never spoke to him, I never did anything bad to him, yet he insulted me and finally punched me in the jaw,” she said.
Although the school has unisex bathrooms, Sovereign said sometimes it’s more convenient to use the men’s bathroom, even if it makes her feel uncomfortable.

“I feel incredibly uncomfortable in the men’s bathroom,” the girl said, adding that she had never been afraid to use the men’s bathroom before.
“I would rather feel uncomfortable using the women’s restroom than make other people feel uncomfortable,” Sovereign added.
Meanwhile, the Minnetonka Police Department is currently investigating the assault as a possible hate crime.
It was not immediately clear whether any charges would be filed against the male student, whose identity has not been released.
Hopkins High School officials confirmed that the student who allegedly punched Sovereign was immediately disciplined but did not provide details about the punishment.
School policy is to suspend students involved in fights.
