Connecticut Town Council Refuses to Fly Thin Blue Line Flag to Honor Fallen State Trooper

A Democratic-controlled town council in Connecticut is facing backlash after refusing to fly the “Thin Blue Line” flag in memory of a state trooper who was killed in a hit-and-run crash on May 30.

Wethersfield City Councilman Rich Bailey (R) proposed flying the flag to honor Officer 1st Class Aaron Pelletier, who was struck and killed by a driver while being pulled over for a traffic violation.

“The first responder flag recognizes all emergency personnel, including police, fire and emergency management,” Lesser said. “The ‘Blue Line’ flag was designed for police officers and is over 100 years old, but now it’s been used by white supremacists and many police organizations have rejected the flag.”

Pelletier’s wife, Dominique, gave a moving speech at the fallen officer’s funeral.

“He was a man of integrity and honor and I will make sure I teach my children that those are the traits they definitely inherited from him,” she said through tears. “My love, you were more than just my husband. You were my home. You were my heart. You were my safe place and my bread and butter. You were my best friend, my secret keeper and my favorite gossiper.”

“The light of our smiles will fade forever and a world without that laughter seems unimaginable, but it is already a reality,” Dominic continued. “We promise to keep you alive forever in our home, in our hearts and in the memories of our sons. We love you and we miss you.”

The hit-and-run suspect, Alex Hoyola-Sanchez, was arrested after driving through several towns and was later charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, according to the Associated Press.
