A suspect believed to have shot and killed a man at a downtown Miami apartment building and started a three-alarm fire that engulfed the building on Monday night has been taken into custody, authorities said.
Miami police have identified the suspect in the shooting and fire at Temple Court Apartments as 73-year-old Juan Francisco Figueroa.
Miami’s first three-alarm fire in 25 years has been brought under control after more than eight hours of battling flames that engulfed a four-story building. Firefighters rescued more than 40 people trapped inside the burning building, including those on balconies.
After the fire was put out, police and fire officials said all residents were safe, and three firefighters were taken to hospital in stable condition.

Firefighters responded to a fire on the third floor of the building around 8:15 a.m. and found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Few details were initially released about the shooting victim, but authorities said he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Fox News Digital reached out to police and fire departments but did not immediately receive a response.

Shooting victim’s family He told WSVN-TV He identified the man as Federwan Biot, 30, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex.
