Biden Calls Trump ‘Lying Dog-Faced Pony Soldier’ Citing Line from Movie That May Not Exist

President Joe Biden ended his performance in a historically panned debate by insulting former President Donald Trump with a line from a movie that doesn’t seem to exist.

Biden spoke to a small crowd of supporters at a brief post-debate rally, with his wife, Jill Biden, introducing him and encouraging the sparse audience.

“You did a great job. You answered all of our questions,” she told her husband, handing him the microphone.

Then things started to get weird.

“There’s a famous movie with John Wayne, and he’s working for the Union Army and he’s trying to get the Apaches back on the reservation,” Biden told a crowd of fans. “They were telling him all these lies. And they were all sitting on the edge of a cliff. And John Wayne was sitting with two Indians. [mumbles] The Apaches. And one of them looked at John Wayne and said, “These guys are just lying dog-faced pony soldiers.” Except he’s just a liar!”

Biden has used the outdated insult over the years, including in 2020 when he insulted voters at an event in New Hampshire.

But despite claims by Biden and his team, the line doesn’t appear to be from a John Wayne movie, much less a “famous” one.

a slate 2020 Articles I was asked To determine if this line is from a Wayne film:

The answer is “maybe” — Wayne appeared in 180 movies over five decades, and no one knows what he was called in all of them — but it seems at least as likely that Biden has a different movie in mind. Pony Soldieris a 1952 western directed by Joseph M. Newman, starring Tyrone Power as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In the film, “Pony Soldiers” is the Native American nickname for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and while no one calls Power a “lying, dog-faced Pony Soldier,” one chief does say that “Pony Soldiers speak with rattling snake tongues,” which isn’t far off the mark.

Not all of Wayne’s film remains, but it seems the commander in chief misunderstood. Either way, this bizarre moment is just another moment from a night Biden will likely want to forget.
