The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Monday that soldiers had discovered and destroyed a massive kilometre-long underground tunnel in central Gaza that had been used to transport terrorists and weapons through a key strategic area.

The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement:
The 99th Division, the only reserve unit operating in the Gaza Strip, has been fighting in the central Gaza Strip for the past few months, where soldiers have eliminated about 100 terrorists and destroyed more than 100 terrorist structures, weapons storage facilities, observation posts, launch pads and underground tunnel routes.
In cooperation with Yahalom, the forces destroyed a kilometer-long terrorist tunnel, including a spur that terrorists used to move between different underground locations. In addition, the forces attacked a booby-trapped mosque that was being used as a terrorist hideout in the area. A secondary explosion was detected after the attack, indicating that a large amount of weapons had been stored at the location.
