President Biden may need to step back from the podium for a bit.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity, the President delivered a speech in which he sharply criticized the Supreme Court’s decisions that gave former President Donald Trump absolute immunity for presidential actions and presumed immunity for “official actions.”
In his speech, Biden argued that the ruling gave Trump the ability to do whatever he wanted, including pursuing his political opponents through law.
“Glenn, what I understand from what I’ve heard in the last 24 hours is that the Supreme Court has given the President of the United States a James Bond license to kill.” Stu Bruguiere Tell a joke Glenn Beck.
And he’s not wrong — that’s what Biden was alluding to.
“This country was founded on the principle that in America there are no kings. Each of us is equal before the law. No one is above the law,” Biden said, choking up. “Today’s decision almost certainly means that there will be virtually no limits to what the president can do.”
“This is a dangerous precedent because it would mean the power of the presidency would no longer be limited by law,” the president continued.
Glenn can’t believe what he’s hearing and points out the blatant hypocrisy.
“They’re saying Trump is going to silence speech. Donald Trump is going to silence all dissent. But that’s not happening right now,” Glenn says sarcastically.
“Let’s say Donald Trump finds himself running against someone he thinks he can’t win. He’ll fabricate charges, get you arrested, drag you to court and end up in prison. That’s what Trump can do,” he added.
Biden has been hypocritical not only regarding his attempt to imprison President Trump, but also regarding the imprisonment of those who participated in the January 6th protests.
“If you really go all the way, it should be scary that you might arrest a group of people en masse because they don’t like Donald Trump, you know?” Glenn said.
But as the Supreme Court has ruled, presidential actions must be constitutional.
“If the president does something unconstitutional, he can be arrested. But the president can’t do that unless it’s unconstitutional. So it’s unconstitutional to arrest people who don’t agree with you. It’s unconstitutional to silence people who disagree with you. It’s unconstitutional to go after your political opponents and try to put them in jail,” Glenn continued.
“Everything Joe Biden is doing right now.”
