Oakland Man Whose Shop Was Robbed Points to Slow Police Response

A gas station owner in Democrat-governed Oakland, California, is working to recover after his store was attacked by a mob early Friday.

The incident happened at 76 Gas Station & Mini Market on Hegenberger Street around 4 a.m. when a large group of people were inside. Plundered KTVU reported that the store was damaged.

The outlet said the damage was estimated at about $100,000 and that two employees inside the store were threatened. The store’s owner, Sam Murday, claims the robbers entered through the front door, while the store only served customers through the windows.

“It’s the toughest thing you can go through in your life … especially if you’ve put your sweat and tears into it every day,” Mulday said.

“The shelves were ripped apart and all the food was ripped, trampled or destroyed. They smashed the refrigerator, robbed the ATM, vandalised the ATM and stole everything inside. They tried to take the safe but couldn’t get into it as it was better secured than anything else,” Marday told the outlet.

The owner claimed that six hours had passed since he called police for help, but no one had yet arrived. Police later told KTVU they were responding to the sideshow, which had attracted more than 100 vehicles.

Police said they responded about 90 minutes later to a report of a robbery at the nearby 76th Gas Station and initially assessed the crime as a Priority 2 (no suspects on scene and the crime can be reported online).

Only after viewing the video of the robbery did police raise the case to Priority 1 and dispatch officers to the scene.

“The more I think about it, the more painful it becomes. And the scary thing is, this could happen tomorrow, the day after, or every day from now on,” Mardaye says. Said NBC Bay Area.
