Veteran Democratic campaign strategist James Carville warned Friday that endorsing Trump is exactly what former President Donald Trump wants.
MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell noted that Carville has asked former presidents Obama and Clinton to host town halls to gauge who might be a likely candidate to replace Biden, and asked, “Is that confusing?”
“Hey, that could be a mess. [But] “Let me be clear, what we’re doing right now is exactly what Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago wants us to do,” Carville said, referring to reports that the Trump campaign wants to take on Biden.
“If Democrats are so desperate to please Donald Trump, [run Biden]”It’s that simple,” he said.
Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville appeared on MSNBC and issued a stern warning to Democrats.
Carville then blasted “Washingtonites” for sticking to the details of an idea for town hall meetings to find a new candidate, saying: “Nah, never mind. Do something! Don’t just stand there!”
“In detail, we are going to lose elections to arch criminals who are trying to destroy the Western alliance, the constitution and everything in between, so we should act accordingly,” he argued.

Mitchell then asked what he thought Democratic elites like “Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer or Hakeem Jeffries” were up to.
“I think they’re embarrassed,” Carville responded. “I think they want change. I think they understand the path we’re on.”
Carville repeated his previous arguments, blasting the Democratic establishment for sticking to a losing strategy in Trump’s favor simply because a new plan to find a more viable candidate has “not yet been worked out.”

“Think about it: You know exactly what Donald Trump wants from us, you know exactly what Steve Bannon wants from us, and we’re desperate to please them,” he said. “I thought that was a huge mistake. I thought that. I still think that. I’m not going to change my mind for some naive technical reason about how to hold a town hall meeting.”

Carville concluded that a big concern for Democrats is that “the donor base is closing down. I know these people. Not only are they closing down donations to the Biden campaign, they’re closing down donations to Senate committees, House committees.”
He concluded: “Unlike me, all I can do is keep my mouth shut, and that makes a lot of people happy. But they tighten the purse strings, and that makes a lot of people unhappy. And that’s what’s happening. This is a hugely underrated story, and it’s not just about being the top candidate.”
