‘Daily Show’ Cancels On-the-Ground RNC Coverage After Trump Assassination Attempt

Don’t change your TV settings: Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” and host Jon Stewart will be absent from the Republican National Convention, which begins Monday.

variety According to reports, the show’s production team had planned to travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the event is being held, but Comedy Central’s flagship network canceled those plans on Sunday.

In a message posted on Instagram and through X, the company said it “apologises for any inconvenience caused” and explained that due to “logistical challenges and a changing situation in Milwaukee” it “had to reschedule our local event in Wisconsin.”

The decision was announced less than 24 hours after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

The show will now be based in its usual home of New York City.

The show, which Stewart normally hosts, will not air on Monday, with the late-night series instead resuming Tuesday through Thursday.

A spokesperson for the show said, variety.

“The Late Show” also had plans to broadcast live from Chicago, site of the Democratic National Convention, later in the summer.

The original plan was to do a series of tapings at the city’s Marcus Performing Arts Center and then broadcast live on the final day of the tournament on Thursday.

Seats for the show’s four scheduled tapings of the Republican National Convention have sold out, according to 1iota, a web-based ticket sales service used by many late-night TV shows to draw live audiences to their tapings.

The Daily Show will also be in Chicago for taping during the event.

Meanwhile, Breitbart News reported that aides confirmed that Trump plans to attend the rally in a defiant manner, despite the assassination attempt that occurred at the rally on Saturday night.
