Recent polls have shown that former President Donald Trump’s lead over President Joe Biden has expanded by five points nationwide.
The poll, CBS Newsconducted the survey of 2,247 registered voters from July 16-18.
When asked whether they would vote for Trump or Biden if the election were held today, 52 percent of registered voters said they would vote for Trump.
Forty-seven percent of registered voters surveyed said they would vote for Biden.

Respondents were also asked whether the attempted assassination of President Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania last Saturday made them more or less likely to vote for President Trump.
While 26% of registered voters said they were “more likely” to consider voting for Trump and 7% said they were “less likely” to consider voting for the former president, 67% said their voting decision was “unchanged.”
When asked whether President Trump has brought more unity since the recent assassination attempts, 54% of voters said he has brought “more unity” while 46% said he has brought “more division.”
The CBS News poll was conducted after suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, shot Trump from a nearby building in direct line of sight to the former president, leaving Trump “struck by a bullet that penetrated the upper part of his right ear.”
