Trump Predicted to Breitbart News in December Biden Would Not Be Nominee

Seven months ago, former President Donald Trump correctly predicted to Breitbart News that President Joe Biden would not be the Democratic presidential nominee.

Trump predicted what ultimately happened on Sunday in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News editor-in-chief Alex Marlow and Washington bureau chief Matthew Boyle at his luxury Mar-a-Lago resort in December.

“When you compare him to who he was 15, 20 years ago, he’s a different type of guy, a guy who can’t talk, can’t string two sentences together,” Trump told Marlowe and Boyle. “So I think: I can’t believe he’s going to be the nominee. I hope he is. But I can’t believe he’s going to be the nominee.”

In a letter announcing the end of his candidacy, Biden expressed his belief that “it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to step down and focus on fulfilling the duties of my presidency for the remainder of my term.”

In his initial letter, he did not endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, but posted his support for her about 30 minutes later.

“Today I fully endorse and support Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Democrats, now is the time to come together and defeat Trump,” he said as the Democratic National Convention in August rapidly approaches.

As Marlowe and Boyle noted, Trump suggested to Breitbart News in December that Harris also wouldn’t be a candidate.

When asked who he thought would replace Biden at the top of the Democratic Party’s shortlist, Trump said he didn’t know, but he didn’t think Harris would either. He said some Democrats would argue that if it wasn’t Biden, it had to be Harris, because Biden had promised Rep. James Clyburn (D-South Carolina) that he would choose a black woman as his running mate. That promise was crucial to Biden’s support in 2020, when Biden won the Democratic primary in a landslide victory in South Carolina and clinched the nomination. But Trump said he thought Harris’ weaknesses, as reflected in her failure on key national policy issues, would be too much for the Democrats to handle, and that she would have to be removed as well.

“I don’t know,” Trump said. “The idea that it has to be Kamala… [Clyburn]… I don’t think they can help her.”

Later in the interview, when asked again who he thought would replace both Biden and Harris if the Democrats dropped them, Trump said he didn’t know who would emerge, but he thought there would be a “battle” within the Democratic Party to grab the top spot on the ballot.

Breitbart News caught up with Eric Trump on Thursday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When asked if he thought Harris would be a better challenger to his father than Biden, Eric Trump said he was ready to run for office no matter who won.

“She was supposed to address AI and she hasn’t done anything on that front. She was also supposed to address the border, which has been the biggest disaster of the last four years,” Eric Trump said. “So my dad would love to run against Kamala Harris. And he would love to run against Joe Biden, of course. We’re prepared for both.”
