Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy After President Biden announced Sunday he was suspending his reelection bid amid growing pressure from within his party, he accused Democratic leaders of trying to “hijack” our democracy.
In a video posted to X, Portnoy said the decision to drop out of the campaign was “the right decision,” but criticized the timing.

“When the powers that be put Joe in the debates, they beat him up. With Trump. They knew what we’ve always known with two eyes and two brains, which is that he was a head of lettuce – a vegetable,” Portnoy said.

“It’s the right move. He shouldn’t be running. Not for the right reasons. He’s been like this for years and the Democrats have covered it up. And they’re thinking, ‘Well, he’s probably not going to beat Trump, so we’ve got to put somebody else in his place.’ They’ve waited this long, so what now? Basically, they get to pick their own replacement?”
“It’s insane that they’ve waited this long. They’re basically hijacking our democracy. They’re not letting people vote. They’re holding it off until the convention. It’s insane because he was doing this before he even ran. That in itself is incredibly insane,” he said.

“Serving as president has been the greatest honor of my life. While I intended to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and my country if I step aside for the remainder of my term and focus on fulfilling my duties as president,” he said Sunday.
