Michigan man dead after saying he’d confess to ATV crimes targeting Trump, law enforcement supporters: police

A Michigan man was found dead after telling police he would confess to an ATV crime aimed at supporters of former President Trump and police.

In one incident, an 80-year-old man who was putting up a Trump sign in his yard was run over by a quad bike, leaving the elderly man hospitalized in serious condition on Sunday.

According to a press release from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Hancock City Police received a message on Monday from a person living on Samson Street in Quincy Township who “wanted to confess to a crime involving an ATV driver that occurred within the past 24 hours.” The caller further told police they wanted “someone to send to pick them up,” the release stated.

Officers and deputies responded to the scene and found a 22-year-old male suspect “dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound” at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence and seized multiple electronic devices, which the sheriff’s office said will be searched by computer forensics experts.

Authorities said additional evidence was found at the scene “including the quad bike used during the city incident and clothing worn by the suspect during the original incident.”

The press release stated that the crime reported in Hancock “appeared to be politically motivated, with victims displaying Trump campaign posters and police stickers and flags, commonly referred to as ‘Thin Blue Line’ paraphernalia.”

The sheriff’s office said no further details would be released because the investigation is ongoing.
