JD Vance says wife Usha faced white supremacist attacks over Indian heritage

Senator J.D. Vance said he and his wife have been targets of attacks from white supremacists in the past because she is of Indian descent.

The Ohio senator married Usha Chirukuri Vance in 2014.

“Look, I love my wife very much. I love her because she is who she is,” Vance said Friday in an interview on Megyn Kelly’s podcast. “Obviously, she’s not white, and we’ve been criticized and attacked by white supremacists for that, but I just love Usha.”

“She’s a really good mother,” Vance continued, “and she’s a really good lawyer and I’m really proud of her, but certainly her experience has shown me how tough it is for working families in this country.”

The couple have three children: Ewan, Vivec and Mirabelle.

Vance, a former Marine and Appalachian memoirist, rose to national prominence last week when former President Trump selected him as his 2024 running mate.

The choice enthralled his online MAGA supporters but drew a chilling response from those who had hoped he would appoint someone with more experience.

Nick Fuentes, a prominent American white supremacist, publicly challenged Usha Vance after she was elected to the Senate.

“Who is this guy? Can we really expect a man with an Indian wife and who named his child Vivec to support white identity?” Fuentes said after Vance was elected.
