A ban on prescribing puberty-suppressing drugs to children was made law on Monday over a challenge from transgender advocacy groups.
In a blow to the woke transgender movement, emergency legislation introduced by former Health Secretary Victoria Atkins in May to ban the giving of puberty-blocking drugs to children has been upheld by the UK High Court, the BBC reports. report.
The decision follows a lawsuit from progressive campaign group TransActual UK, which argued that the government had unfairly used emergency powers to enforce the ban and had not properly consulted patient groups before making the decision.

Recently appointed Health Minister Wes Streeting said of Monday’s ruling, “Children’s health care must be evidence-based… Dr Cass’s review found that there is insufficient evidence that puberty suppressants are safe or effective for children with gender identity disorder or gender nonconformity.”

The Transact UK campaign group condemned the sentence and said it was considering an appeal.
“We have serious concerns about the safety and wellbeing of young transgender people in the UK. Over the past few years, they have come to believe that the UK health system is only paying lip service to their needs and is now happy to weaponise their very existence in a discredited culture war,” the organisation said in a statement. statement.
