Rock singer Billie Joe Armstrong held up what appeared to be a rubber head of former President Donald Trump and threw it into the crowd during a Green Day concert on Monday, less than a month after the attempted assassination of President Trump.
Green Day were at Nationals Park in Washington DC as part of the band’s current tour when Billie Joe Armstrong did the stunt while performing “Jesus of Suburbia,” wearing a rubber headband with the word “Idiot” written across his forehead.
Armstrong then lifted the prop’s head off the top, as if it had been decapitated, and hurled it with a loud bang into the crowd, who cheered in approval.

Monday’s stunt was reminiscent of the infamous 2017 photo of comedian Kathy Griffin holding a bloody prop head of President Trump and simulating a beheading.
Armstrong’s actions came less than a month after an assassin attempted to kill former President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania, in which Trump narrowly survived after being struck by a bullet in his right ear.
Billie Joe Armstrong has long used Green Day concerts to express his left-wing political beliefs.
In 2022, he yelled “Fuck America” and said he would “give up his citizenship” following the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
At a show earlier this year Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve On ABC, he insulted Trump supporters by calling them “rednecks.”
In an interview this year, Armstrong said people who don’t want transgender propaganda in schools and around their children are “really small-minded.”
