Kamala Harris Opposed 2017 Trump Tax Cuts, Which Doubled Child Tax Credit

Vice President Kamala Harris, who voted against the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that doubled the child tax credit when she was a senator in 2017, now wants to significantly increase the credit.

In 2017, Harris voted in lockstep with Senate Democrats, be against The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act doubled the child tax credit to $2,000.

In a lengthy statement after the vote be against Historic Tax Reform Package by Harris Written:

The tax reform plan that my Republican colleagues approved tonight ShamefulTonight, corporations and the top 1% of Americans won at the expense of the middle class. Wrong And that does not reflect the best of who we are as a country.

At a time when corporate profits are at record highs and workers’ wages are stagnant, my Republican colleagues have given corporations and the top 1% of Americans a permanent tax cut. This plan does this by adding a trillion dollars to the deficit and asking working and middle-class families to pay for it. We shouldn’t explode the deficit and take the rug out from under the middle class in order to give billions of dollars to people who already have so much.

The bill would provide 572,000 taxpayers making over $1 million a year with a $34 billion tax cut over one year. For seniors who rely on Medicare, the tax plan risks cutting Medicare by up to $410 billion over 10 years, with more than $45 billion of that going to California. Having failed to repeal Obamacare, Senate Republicans are now seeking to take health insurance away from millions of Americans and raise premiums for millions of Californians by repealing the individual mandate.

Instead of using people’s lives for political purposes,We must respond to the American people who have spoken out loud that this is not what they want. There is a better way to reform tax that is bipartisan, transparent and fair for all Americans. [Emphasis added]

“The Republican tax bill that passed the Senate is a farce — it gives more tax cuts to the top 1 percent and permanently lowers corporate tax rates at the expense of middle-class families. This is not what the American people wanted. It’s up to us to fight back at the ballot box in 2018,” Harris wrote in 2017.

In 2019, Harris, who was then a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, It is called “Repeal the tax bill completely.”

This time, Harris copied a policy proposal from the Trump-Vance campaign to significantly expand the child tax credit: After Vance first called for expanding the child tax credit to $5,000, Harris quickly called for expanding the credit to $6,000.
