Judy Woodruff of PBS apologizes for saying Trump was trying to kill Israel ceasefire deal, offers clarification after outrage

PBS senior journalist Judy Woodruff has apologized and explained herself after claiming that former President Donald Trump tried to scrap a Middle East ceasefire agreement for political gain.

Woodruff was widely criticized for comments he made during a broadcast of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois on Monday.

“This is not journalism. This is advocacy on behalf of the Democratic Party.”

“Former President Trump reportedly spoke to the Israeli prime minister by phone and urged him not to make a deal right now because it would favor the Harris campaign,” Woodruff said.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office is adamant Denied Claim.

On Wednesday she explanation And an apology.

“I want to clarify remarks I made during Monday night’s PBS News special on ongoing ceasefire negotiations in the Middle East,” Woodruff wrote.

“As I said, this was not based on my original reporting. I was referring to reports I read in Axios and Reuters that former President Trump had spoken with the Israeli prime minister,” she continued. “I repeated that story at the moment I was on live air because I had not seen later reports that both sides denied it. This was incorrect and I apologize.”

Woodruff was immediately reprimanded for airing the unconfirmed report.

“My former colleague @JudyWoodruff I know it is not wise to make such shocking statements about Trump and Netanyahu without citing sources…If it is true, please cite your sources…We can all face the truth…Not citing sources is just gossip, not journalism…It is a national investigator.” Responded Newsmax’s Greta Van Susteren.

“This is a lie by Judy Woodruff. Shame on @PBS for the other 4 being silent while Woodruff smears Trump with her lies,” Richard Grenell said. Worked Why doesn’t Trump’s PBS feature opposing views? This is not journalism. This is pro-Democrat rhetoric. Shame on you Judy.”

Woodruff was not the only one to come under fire for her comments on the ceasefire at the Democratic National Convention: New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was slammed by pro-Palestinian activists for claiming that candidate Kamala Harris was “tirelessly” working for a ceasefire.
