Oprah invokes ‘childless cat lady’ in DNC speech

Oprah Winfrey made a surprise appearance on the third night of the Democratic National Convention, drawing the loudest cheers of the night from the crowd.

The TV star praised “childfree, cat-loving women” during her speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday.

“We’re not that different from our neighbors,” Winfrey said. “When a house burns down, we don’t ask what race or religion the homeowner is. We don’t care who their partner is or how they voted.”

“And if the house happens to be the home of a childless cat lover, we’ll try to get rid of the cat, too,” she joked.

Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance, in a 2021 interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, argued that the Democratic Party is “run by childless, catty-cat women who are miserable about their lives and the choices they’ve made, so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”

She praised several of her predecessors for giving powerful speeches about abortion on stage this week.

“Over the last few nights, we’ve seen great people take to the stage and share their most private pain,” she said.

“They shared with us their stories of near death after the state denied them abortions that doctors described as medically necessary,” she added.

Oprah has previously claimed that freedom means “standing up to the bullies in your life.”
