Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s sister on Monday slammed him for supporting former President Trump, saying his father would be “deeply disappointed” by the move.
“I think he’s going to be so disappointed and at the end of the day, he’s going to want to hug Bobby and love him and tell him, ‘It’s OK. You are loved just the way you are,'” Kerry Kennedy said. When asked on SiriusXM On how her father, former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, reacted to his son’s support for Trump.
“‘You don’t need power, you don’t need applause, you just need to know that God made you in his image,'” she continued.
Kennedy announced last week that he would suspend his independent presidential campaign in battleground states but leave his name on the ballot in Republican and Democratic states, signaling his support for Trump and blasting what he said were unfair treatment of his independent campaign by Democrats and the media.
Kerry Kennedy expressed concern about her brother’s “desperate need for love, respect and political power.”
These are “driving him to choose ‘values’ that are not his ‘core values,'” she said.
“First and foremost, I’m worried about my brother, but I’m also worried about our country,” she said. “The stakes couldn’t be higher in November, which is why my entire family will be fighting hard for the re-election of Kamala Harris and ‘Coach’ Waltz,” she continued.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s family, including Kerry Kennedy, in a statement Friday opposed his support for the former president, calling it “a betrayal of the values our father and our family hold most dear.”
Secretary of State John Kerry said Trump was the “antithesis” of Kennedy family values and a “threat to the most fundamental rights and freedoms” of Americans.
The Hill has reached out to the Kennedy campaign for further comment.
