The plan has drawn backlash from Florida's Republican Party officials, the Herald reported, with people protesting in parks across the state and a petition against it garnering hundreds of thousands of signatures.

Governor DeSantis signed a bill in May that repealed provisions that required Florida to consider climate change when crafting energy policy, but it drew backlash from environmental leaders, who said the bill failed to address the environmental challenges the state is grappling with.
