Speaking on Fox News Channel's “Fox and Friends” on Tuesday, Israeli U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon said, “I expect our ally, the United States, to say clearly that Hamas is to blame for the failure to reach an agreement today,” in response to President Joe Biden's criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for not doing enough for a ceasefire after Hamas killed several Israeli and American hostages.
Danone said:[I]It's very simple. Hamas is to blame. That's it. You can't blame Netanyahu or Israel. Hamas always says:[s] “No. In May, President Biden presented a proposal. We said yes. Hamas said no. And in August, the same thing happened. How dare you blame us on a day when we are mourning the brutal execution of six Israeli teenagers, including an American boy, after he was held captive for almost 11 months, tortured, injured and then executed.”
He added, “I saw the video… and I recall the moments when those boys and girls were waiting and knew they were actually going to be executed. They are barbarians, they are reprehensible. And we expect our ally, the United States, to say unequivocally that it is Hamas' fault that we did not reach an agreement today.”
Co-host Brian Kilmeade asked: “What do you think about the fact that we've been trying to direct the war from here and telling them not to go to Rafah for a long time? Do you think that helps or does it hurt?”
Danon responded: “I think this undermines US interests because they wanted the war to end as quickly as possible. … I think the war has to end, not the end of the war. The war has to end. And the end of the war is the end of Hamas. That's it. We will not allow Hamas to remain in power.”
