Judge dismisses sexual assault case against free agent NFL kicker

A Florida judge has dismissed a lawsuit alleging that NFL kicker Brandon McManus sexually assaulted two women on a team flight to London.

Judge Michael S. Shalit ruled that, under Florida law, the two women's use of the pseudonyms “Jane Doe I” and “Jane Doe II” did not meet the “exceptional case” standard necessary to guarantee the parties anonymity.

“To be fair, plaintiffs must be prepared to publicly support their allegations, just as defendant McManus must publicly refute them,” Shalit added.

“Most defendants in sexual assault cases file these motions believing that their cases cannot move forward unless the victims come forward,” Tony Buzbee said in a statement to ESPN. “We expected this ruling, and to be clear, these women have no intention of going into hiding and will comply with the court's orders in a timely manner. We look forward to continuing to pursue this important case.”

Doe I and Doe II allege that McManus would rub and rub against them while flying as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the suit alleges that the flight “quickly became a party” as McManus hurled $100 bills at flight attendants in exchange for performing inappropriate dance moves.

After Doe II confronted McManus, McManus “walked away grinning,” and Doe I stated that one of McManus' teammates made eye contact with McManus during McManus' initial assault and appeared embarrassed by McManus' behavior.

The Washington Commanders released McManus shortly after the lawsuit was filed, and he remains a free agent.
