No crime occurred when group of illegal aliens attempted to enter school bus, sheriff’s office finds

The San Diego Sheriff's Department has determined no crime was committed in an incident last week in which a group of illegal immigrants tried to board a school bus full of young children.

But Nicole Cardinale, whose 8-year-old son was sitting in the front seat of the school bus when the incident occurred, explained that she “cannot believe that the men did not try to get on the bus,” the news outlet reported.

Last Tuesday, three undocumented males walking along Highway 94 allegedly attempted to stop a Jamul-Dul-Zula Unified School District school bus, forcing the driver to detour. KSWB Television Reported previously.

The next day, 20 people allegedly tried to board a school bus carrying children on a different route in the Jamul-Dul-Zula Unified School District. Local reports said parents at the bus stop assisted the driver to stop the illegal immigrants from getting into the vehicle.

“Both incidents involved individuals attempting to stop a bus or board a bus at a bus stop,” Superintendent Liz Bystead said in a letter to parents.

Cardinale said the incident was “really frightening” for her son.

“[My son] The adults, not the children, were seen trying to get on with their backpacks on. [his bus.] “… They said there were many perpetrators,” she told KSWB, “and it's really horrifying that these kids ended up in this situation. If those 20 people had gotten on the bus and tried to hijack it, the kids and the bus driver could have been in real danger.”

She noted that the men were “standing at the doorway” of the bus.

“I think they were trying to communicate with the driver and get on,” Cardinale said. “Why would they think it was OK to get on a school bus? I know there's a language barrier, but… [need] To have empathy. … These are children and how scared they must have been.”

The sheriff's office investigated the incident and concluded that no crime was committed.

“It is not uncommon in this area of ​​the county for local volunteer and charitable organizations to provide supplies, some of which operate vehicles similar to school buses,” the sheriff's office told KGTV.

“Several individuals approached the bus, but there did not appear to be any intent to hijack the bus or to harm anyone. At no time did anyone other than students board the bus or approach nearly boarding the bus,” the superintendent's letter said.

“It was just a frightening situation because it was an unfamiliar situation to us. The Sheriff's Office will continue to be vigilant on this issue and will increase patrols along the bus route,” Bystedt added.

Border Patrol officials reported that “several individuals were detained” for being in the U.S. illegally. Those detained face deportation proceedings.
